Description

Tear off and Installation of a Modified Bitumen Roof was performed at this project in Chicago. We completed this 70 SQ work in 7 fashionably days.

Safety precautions: We firstly ensured that the work area was safe. This includes wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), such as hard hats, safety glasses, and slip-resistant footwear.

Modified Bitumen Roof Installation:

  1. Roof tear off:  We removed the existing roof material down to the deck, which involved tearing off multiple layers of old roofing material. We properly disposed of the old roof materials.
  2. Deck preparation: Once we removed the old roofing material, we inspected the roof deck for any damage. Found damage were repaired.  Finally, cleaned and swept to remove any debris from the deck.
  3. Base layer installation: Installed a base layer over the cleaned and prepared deck.  Asphalt was the base layer, which was applied using a hot torch. Alternatively, a self-adhering base layer may be used.
  4. Modified bitumen Roof installation: Installed the modified bitumen membrane over the base layer. Unrolled the membrane and attached it to the base layer using a hot torch.
  5. Flashing installation: Installed flashing around any roof penetrations, such as vents, pipes, or skylights, to ensure that they were watertight.
  6. Sealing and finishing: Sealed the seams and edges of the modified bitumen membrane  with a special adhesive or heat-sealed to ensure that the roof is watertight.
  7. Final inspection and clean up: On completed installation, inspection on the roof was done to ensure correct procedures. It was free from defects. Any debris or waste materials were removed from the site.

It’s important to note that the exact steps involved in a modified bitumen roof installation can vary depending on the specific roof and local regulations or building codes. It’s always best to consult with a professional roofing contractor to ensure that the installation is done safely and effectively.
